Jacksonville, as a military town, has more than its share of veterans in need. And on Wednesday, Jacksonville officials and the President of the Jacksonville Jaguars came together to announce $55,000 worth of grants to local veteran-serving organizations.

The Dignity U Wear Foundation, Five Star Veterans Center, Florida National Guard Foundation, Generation W, Gratitude America, Jacksonville University, K9s for Warriors, Northeast Florida Women Veterans and Operation New Uniform were among the 2016 recipients of the Jacksonville Veterans Resource and Reintegration Center grants.

As part of a partnership with the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation, the City of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs and Veterans department is disbursing those grants.

“We recognize the incredible work provided by our veteran-serving organizations and are proud to provide these community grants to further strengthen their efforts in serving our community’s veterans and military servicemen and servicewomen,” said Jaguars President Mark Lamping in a statement. “Jacksonville puts a premium on recognizing, caring for, and honoring our military and veterans. The entire Jaguars organization is honored to play a part.”

Mayor Lenny Curry added, also in a statement, that “the Jaguars Foundation and the City of Jacksonville can enhance the services provided to military and veterans throughout our city.”

$55,000 will help to that end.

The Jaguars are in the midst of a $1 million, five-year commitment to fund community grants, and these particular ones help military members with the often daunting transition back to civilian life.
